How to Give An AMAZING Gift Without Breaking Your Budget
So, you are in gift exchange or you have a party coming up, but you are on a tight budget. You want to give something the person will love, but the stress of spending is weighing on you. Gift giving doesn’t have to break your bank. You can put together a beautiful gift for much less money than you thought you would spend simply by using a few ideas below.
We all know what happens, whether it’s a birthday party, Christmas, or any gift-giving occasion – either you ask for ideas and don’t receive any, or the person says “I’ll be happy with anything.” Once in a while, you get a specific request and sometimes you need to work off the recipient’s interests (“I like movies, reading, or coffee”) which personally I find, is the best way! Although these interests might seem vague, it’s actually a GREAT starting point to put together an amazing gift.
GIFTS FOR BOOK LOVERS
Let’s say the person you are celebrating loves to read. Do they have a favorite author? Is there a specific book they are dying to read? What is their favorite genre? Or, is there something new out there that you know they will absolutely love?
So you pick out a great book, but now you wonder if giving a book is boring. You’re thinking, “So I’m going to put a book into a box and wrap it?” B-O-R-I-N-G!
This is where you need to put some pizazz into your gift, and it won’t drain your wallet in the process. Be creative and pump up the volume to make your otherwise visually drab gift come to life and make a statement.
My favorite place for pizazz is the dollar store. Yes, seriously.
Okay, so say you are buying a gift for a book lover. You don’t know what they read, who they read, or what books they ALREADY own, so… you pick up a copy of my “First I Drink the Coffee, Then I Do the Things” (here or on Amazon) which is a full–color quote book, great to give to any book lover. Combine that with an inexpensive coffee mug and a small bag of coffee. Arrange it in an inexpensive basket or decorative box with tissue paper on the bottom to hold it in place, and voila!
You can create this pizazz with any book!
Pair your book with a coffee mug and a couple packets of hot cocoa (or a small box of tea.) Or, an inexpensive throw blanket and some cocoa!
If you know the book you selected is going to bring tears to the reader, pair it with a travel pack of tissues and some chocolate!
Another wonderful idea to pair with a book is bath bombs or sea salts! Nothing like a relaxing soak in the tub while enjoying your favorite book. Add some tea lights or larger candles for sweet ambiance!
GIFTS FOR MOVIE LOVERS
You can do the same with movies! Purchase your movie and add pizazz!
If it’s a date-night type movie, pair it with a bottle of wine and a couple inexpensive glasses. A tear-jerker? Add that travel pack of tissues. Add an inexpensive throw!
For kids (of all ages) simply add a box or two of movie theatre candy (from the dollar store) and a couple packets of microwave popcorn – then put it all together in a dollar store bowl (which they will eat the popcorn out of!) Spice it up with tissue paper to hold it all together and you’ve got a great gift!
If you have no idea which movie to buy, then just purchase a gift card for their local movie theatre and combine that with your candy boxes and popcorn!
GIFTS FOR EXERCISE LOVERS
Whether it’s yoga, jogging, walking, or at the gym – most people have some form of exercise they are interested in. Let’s say someone asks for a yoga mat. Wrapping up a yoga mat is a great idea, but with some inexpensive pizazz, it can really pop! Pair it with an inexpensive water bottle. Add a small hand towel and an energy bar.
No matter what the central idea is, there are little things you can add to that gift to make an even better gift. In fact, whether you are buying the person jogging shoes, a step-counter, or a small set of weights, you can pizazz it up with inexpensive things like energy bars, small towels (for sweat), water bottles, or even bath salts for after their workout!
GIFTS FOR THE COOK
I wish I could cook, but I really can’t. But I do know people who LOVE to cook. Some inexpensive gift ideas for cooks are cookbooks or baking pans – pizazzed with an oven mitt, inexpensive apron, measuring spoons, hot pads, or dishtowels. You could also do a themed cookbook gift – for instance, a cookbook about Mexican food can be pizazzed with a small sombrero and a small jar of jalapenos!
Maybe they like Jamaican food – pair that cookbook with jerk sauce – or small bottles of spices commonly used in Jamaica like cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, thyme, garlic, ginger, or Pimento (which is called All-Spice in the US.)
Another great idea is to get an oven mitt and put a gift card to their favorite cookware store inside! Tie it off with a ribbon and spoon!
SPICING UP WEATHER RELATED GIFTS
Someone always has gloves, hats, or scarves on their list. Put some pizazz into those ideas by adding a small box of tea or cocoa and an inexpensive mug, or include some of those hand warmer packs for cold weather.
Gift giving doesn’t have to be stressful and it doesn’t have to drain you financially. You CAN create an amazing gift just by adding a couple inexpensive items to your actual gift and packaging it in an aesthetically pleasing way.
Ideas for inexpensive packaging are dollar store items like baskets, bowls, bags, tins, or decorative baskets. Burlap bags are always a great gift package! Tie it off with a piece of ribbon and add a fake flower, a charm, or an inexpensive ornament.
Good luck, and if you have any other ideas, feel free to leave them in the comment area. Enjoy your creative gifting side!
